On 4th June we met up in Lullingstone Country Park for a lovely walk through the lavender fields. Although the lavender had decided it was not quite ready, so we did not get to enjoy the normally spectacular purple fields. What we did have was one of the hottest days of the summer and both myself and Chris ended up with sunburnt shoulders.

We followed a long footpath that takes you through Lullingstone Country Park towards Shoreham stopping along the way for the dogs to cool off in the river ,before continuing to the local pub for a lovely Sunday Roast.

It was the first chance for most of us to meet Nell our newest Weltos puppy and to have lots of puppy cuddles and nips! She definitely was the star of the day.

Many thanks to Chris and Chris Amos for guiding our walk and booking the lovely pub that we went to afterwards for lunch.

Member updates:

David Morgan has been unable to join us this year and sent the following message:

After Jan's illness took a turn for the worse, so that she could not recognise Jack's changes of mood and hence risked the possibility of a snap, he had to go to Kennels and I found one 15 minutes from home. He had never been in Kennels before, but he thrived with caring proprietors and kennel girls plus the resilience of a WT.

I was able to visit him most Sundays for an hour and took him for his vaccination renewal on another occasion.

He was there for 8weeks.

Our daughter Tara, who has worked as a volunteer for the RSPCA for years, and always had rescue dogs, kindly agreed to take Jack with her two

Labradors. That was three weeks ago and he has settled in well, never having had any problems with other dogs.

Tara has had a couple of sessions with a behaviourist because Jack shows signs of anxiety – perhaps he always did – and treats various locations as a lair from which he can spring out, going from growl to snarl very quickly.

Although Jan has no real recollection of Jack, we are now able to go for regular walks with him as she clearly enjoys this.

Tara and I took Jack to the vets recently for a checkup, and he is in rude health apart from needing attention to his teeth.

Obviously, I miss having him round the house and all the activities which we enjoyed over the last 10 years but it is super that he is still part of our family.

A happy ending!

One day I hope to make a Club walk.

Best to all

David
